On Sunday September 27th, members of the Base Boston Honor Guard and Division 12 Color Guard teamed up for the eighth time this year and put forward a Team Coast Guard Color Guard presentation at Gillette Stadium and successfully completed their fourth presentation of colors for the New England Patriots.
The evening before, several members of the combined active duty and auxiliary unit presented colors for the New England Revolution at Gillette for the third time this season.
Team members for the Patriots presentation included Color Guard Commander Kevin Ritchie, Division 12 Commander Craig Hall, Division 12 Vice-Commander Matt Vulvey, Immediate Past Division Commander Mitch Paine, and Base Boston members SK3 Scarlett R. Rogers, SK2 Brittany L. Branconnier, and GM3 Samuel R. Ruskin. Upon their arrival at the stadium, members were escorted to a private dressing room where box lunches and pizza where waiting. At 12:30pm the unit assembled in the end zone to prepare for the presentation. When the signal was given, the seven member team marched in close ranks to the fifty yard line for the presentation of colors. The National Ensign was carried by Craig Hall, Massachusetts State Flag carried by Mitch Paine, Coast Guard Standard carried by Samuel Ruskin, Auxiliary Ensign carried by Matt Mulvey, two rifle bearers were Scarlet R. Rogers and Brittany L. Branconnier. Commands were called by Kevin Ritchie.
After the presentation, the team was granted sideline access to view the game. At the conclusion of the 51 to17 Patriots victory, several members were close enough to personally congratulate members of the Patriots as they exited the field.
For the first time ever, the Patriots GameDay magazine, which was available to the sixty-one thousands plus fans in attendance, featured an article and photos on page two of the Team Coast Guard Color Guard unit.
All members enjoyed the exciting atmosphere and representing the Coast Guard at Gillette and look forward to returning.
